DEKIRU:

It's possible

Petites vignettes.jpg

🎥 About the Film :

Since the Fukushima disaster in 2011, Japan has seen the emergence of numerous ecological initiatives. The documentary DEKIRU: It’s Possible explores local and community-driven solutions such as permaculture, renewable energy, alternative schools, Transition Town movements, local currencies, sustainable development, and even politics.

In 2017, Mathilde and Jonathan, a young couple passionate about Japan and ecology, embarked on an 8-month journey to meet the actors of this change. With no initial budget, they documented their immersion in eco-villages, alternative communities, and committed families using a simple 4K camera.

Once the film was completed, it was supported by the French Embassy in Japan and the Institut Français du Japon, which organized debate-screenings in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka. These events allowed the filmmakers to exchange ideas with Isabelle Delannoy, theorist of the symbiotic economy and the film’s sponsor, as well as with several Japanese experts featured in the documentary, discussing issues of ecological and social transition.

The film was distributed in Japan by United People through the Cinemo platform, allowing a wide Japanese audience to discover these local ecological initiatives. In France, DEKIRU: It’s Possible was freely and exclusively available on the Imago TV platform, offering increased visibility to the French public.
Since 2025,
the film is also available on YouTube, enabling an even larger audience to access it freely.

👫 Who Are We ?

Mathilde and Jonathan, both in their thirties, left their daily lives behind to embark on this unique project.

  • Mathilde: Speech therapist passionate about communication and human connections.

  • Jonathan: Entrepreneur in audiovisual production and tourism, fluent in Japanese.

Driven by their love for Japan and ecology, they documented this journey with boldness and sincerity.

🎬 Why this Documentary ?

At first, this project was just a simple trip. With no experience or knowledge in the audiovisual field, Mathilde and Jonathan never imagined making a film. But their boldness and courage carried them forward.

Armed with a 4K camera bought on a whim and an unshakable determination, they chose to capture their adventure to show that creating change is possible, even with limited means.

DEKIRU: It’s Possible is a sincere, raw, and hopeful testimony.
